![]() I CAN hear my guitar’s raw, clean signal. When I wanted to hear plug-ins in real time, here’s what I did:ġ) Armed the track I’m recording into. Here’s what I did to set up Mixcraft and the US 20000:ġ) Downloaded the latest drivers and firmware update from Tascam, and installed those, (previous to installing Mixcraft)Ģ) Installed Mixcraft and used “Mixcraft/File/Preferences/Sound Device” to set the US 2000 to use the ASIO driver and set the best latency scheme for it for this set up.ģ) I set the computer’s system for “Best Performance” in Window’s Control Panels, and I don’t have any other programs running while I use Mixcraft.ĥ) Turned off anti-virus real time protection. It’s all working, Mixcraft sees all the inputs on my hardware device (detailed specs below), and I’m not experiencing and latency or clicks/pops/stuttering during record or playback, so everything seems to be great except for one thing:Īfter uninstalling and reinstalling Mixcraft, it worked (I COULD hear plug-ins in real time) for a half hour or so, then it stopped working again. I've been looking for a mobile solution for recording a whole band (each individual drum, the vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards), without having to take out a second mortgage on the house. I know I did it somehow because the track in question was even placed in a movie, so I’m not imagining things. So, I bought Mixcraft, I’ve been using DAWs since the late ‘90’s so I’m familiar with configuring hardware/software, dealing with latency, setting up aux channels and busses, and fine tuning my system for best result during audio recording. Bounce 1-5 down to 7-8, while recording have your effects on the access send and returns of 7-8. That’s what I thought we were talking about. Yes, using the access send and returns per channel. That's the tricky thing I'm trying to figure. Kslight, you've done this on a 388? I know for a fact that the effects send/return will not end up a track you bounce to, even if you are hearing the effects on that track as you are bouncing. I think you just want to add your effects to the 7-8 channels and it should work, just like if you plugged a mic in. You’ll just have to try it and experiment for the right hookup scenario, but you absolutely can add effects when you bounce.ive done this before.layering and reprocessing effects over and over. I wish there was a way to add effects when But say I have 5 dry drum tracks (1-5) and I want to mix them down to 2 tracks (7-8) with effects could I pingpong/bounce 1-5 to 7-8 and run an effect through the send and return of 7, and 8 and get both the dry track and the effect on each track? My gut says no. Send goes in the input of your effect, receive from the output.Īnother question. Here is what I am thinking of purchasing. Oh let me add, what would be IDEAL is if I could record 4-5 mics to the 388 tracks 1-5, dry, then on playback, dial effects in via effects send/return, and have the effects to go tape when bouncing the tracks to tracks 7-8. Is there some secret way of bussing things within the 388 to do it? I don't get how some of that stuff works. ![]() I'd need a rack pre-amp or something with multiple ins and outs, which I do not have, or some kind of powered sub-mixer, which I also don't have.Ĭan I simply purchase a some 1/4" to male xlr to get from the pedal to the 1/4" input on the 388 so I can get the tracks powered? Does it matter whether I use a balanced or unbalanced 1/4" tip? I'm guessing not since the pedal isn't balanced.Ĭan anyone give me an idea of another way to do what I want to do (effects on drum mics straight to tape on each track). I immediately realized, 1/4" inputs on the 388 are not powered. I don't do crazy close mic-ing, just some overheads and maybe a kick mic (which can be dry). ![]() I'd prefer to set my effects between the mic and the 388 so they go straight to tape, done. It seems to kind of dilute the sound of stereo drum tracks and the stereo mix in general. I am not a fan of the effects send/return when it comes to putting effects on drums on the main outs. The Tascam 388 won't do this! The effects send will only go to tape when you mix down to two tracks through the main outs. You can hook any effect you want to the effects send, run a mic straight to the deck and drench it. On my Tascam 4-track the effects send/return will go straight to tape when you hit record on any track for which you'd applied effects, which is awesome. Sort of new to the 388 and have a question about effects and inputs.
